Alchemy
'Alchemy' is the name of the strange system of exploration of not only the physical properties of matter, but the spiritual value as well. By combining these dual qualities of various materials, Alchemists claimed to create a variety of miraculous substances -- instant cures, life extention potions, precious metals and gems from baser materials -- but most of these claims were a little short on truth. Over the years, the word 'alchemy' has come to be used for any chemical reaction that is scientifically implausible.
